The journey
It isn’t one lake.
It’s everything
in between.
Over five days of trekking, the landscape rarely stays the same for long. Rocky passes and lingering snowfields give way to streams, flowers and intensely green slopes.
And then there are the lakes. Turquoise, deep blue or green, each surrounded by a different landscape. The lake you have just left tells you surprisingly little about what you will find beyond the next ridge.

The six-day trek
Across the range.
Beyond the familiar.
From a guesthouse beside the Khobi River to mountain camps, high passes and two nights at Big Toba. A journey with time to stop, explore and look around.
Day 1Into the foothillsTbilisi to Mukhuri
Travel to Mukhuri and settle into a traditional guesthouse beside the Khobi River. Prepare for the mountains before dinner and the trek briefing.
Day 2Into EgrisiUpper Mangana
After an early off-road transfer, begin in the forest and climb towards a higher ridge. Pass a small mountain lake before continuing to camp at Upper Mangana.
Day 3The way to Big TobaBig Toba
Follow the Mangana River through a steep-sided valley. A plateau and waterfall provide the first surprise, before the trail climbs higher and Big Toba comes into view.
Day 4A day at the lakeBig Toba
A second night at Big Toba leaves time to explore surrounding lakes and higher terrain, or take a slower day beside the lake itself.
Day 5Across the passTsaskibulish
Climb through rocky mountain terrain and lingering snowfields, then descend through running water, flowers and increasingly green slopes towards Tsaskibulish.
Day 6Back to the foothillsReturn to Mukhuri
Hike back towards Natipuru. Off-road transport takes the group to Mukhuri for dinner, a shower and repacking before the onward journey.
A demanding mountain trek, with nights in tents and changing weather. We’ll discuss the route and suitability for your group when planning your departure.
The operation behind the journey
The adventure.
With the logistics
taken care of.
We make a difficult mountain journey possible without taking away the adventure.
Your guests still walk the passes, sleep in tents and spend several days far from roads. Into the Caucasus organises the ground and mountain operation that makes it possible.

Into the Caucasus
Built on years
in these mountains.
Photography first brought Thomas to Georgia. Returning to Egrisi, exploring its routes and building relationships with the people who live and work here became the foundation of Into the Caucasus.
Behind every departure are years of practical experience and relationships with horsemen, guesthouse families and mountain guides.
Good organisation should give your group more freedom in the mountains — time to stop, take photographs and experience where they are.
For tour agencies
Bring your group.
We’ll take it from here.
Offer Tobavarchkhili without having to build the mountain operation behind it. Tell us about your agency, your group and the dates you have in mind.
